Stone is the tier most players actually live in. It is immune to wild creature damage, it is cheap enough to rebuild after a mistake, and it is available long before a metal farm is running.
These builds are sized for that window: real bases with storage and station space, at a cost you can cover in an evening of farming rather than a weekend. Several are mixed builds that use stone for the bulk and metal only where it counts.
On PvP servers treat stone as a delay rather than a defence. It buys time against players; it does not stop them. For anything holding value, move up to the metal and Tek collections.

Yes. Stone is immune to damage from most wild creatures, which is the only threat model that matters on PvE, so a stone base is a permanent home rather than a stopgap.
Every template page lists the full resource breakdown derived from the exact pieces inside the file, so you know the stone, wood and thatch totals before you start farming.
Explosives and Tek weapons go through stone quickly. It stops early-game raids and buys you response time; it does not survive a prepared attack.
Start with stone. The time cost of a metal farm early on is usually better spent on tames and map access, and a stone shell can be replaced with a metal template later.
