Start Small Tribes by staying hidden, farming core resources, building basic defense, and avoiding fights until your base can survive attention.
Small Tribes caps tribes at six and disables alliances, so there's no zerging your way out of a bad spot - every other tribe on the map is a threat and they all know it. When you drop in fresh, the first few hours genuinely decide whether you get a base up or get wiped off the beach. This is the order to do things in.
Small Tribes Rules
- 6-player tribe cap - No mega-tribes, no alliances. Every tribe fends for itself.
- Boosted rates - Taming, harvesting, breeding, and XP are higher than official, but still slow enough that losing progress hurts.
- No server wipes - These servers are persistent. Established tribes have been building for months or years. You're joining a world where people already have mutated lines, tek, and turret walls.
First Day Priorities
1. Pick the right server and location
Don't spawn on a high-population server as a solo or duo. Check the player count - lower population means less chance of getting spotted early. Spawn somewhere remote, away from popular base spots and obelisks. The goal is to be invisible until you have defenses up.
2. Get to metal ASAP
Skip stone. A stone base is a free raid for anyone with a tamed dino. Your priority is getting an Argentavis, an Ankylosaurus, and farming enough metal for a small enclosed base with a few Heavy Auto Turrets. Until you have turrets online, you're a target with no defense.
3. Turrets before anything else
Once you have a metal base, get turrets up immediately. Heavy Auto Turrets loaded with ammo are the only thing that stops casual raiders. Even a small 2x2 with a few turrets makes people think twice about attacking you.
4. Start taming utility dinos
After turrets are up: Anky for metal, Doed for stone, Argentavis for transport, and a combat dino for protection. Don't waste time taming everything - focus on what keeps your tribe productive.
The Shortcut: Buying a Kit
Everything above takes 20+ hours of grinding solo. A base kit gives you metal structures, turrets, ammo, crafting stations, and utility tames delivered directly - you go from beach spawn to defended base in hours instead of days.
