In Genesis Part 1, missions are the progression. Every completion counts toward unlocking the Master Controller, and missions are also where Hexagons come from. That means choosing which missions to run is the actual map strategy, not a side activity.
This walkthrough is written for two readers at once: the survivor who just got wiped and is running missions on a fresh spawn with a scraped-together kit, and the tribe sitting on imprinted lines and full vaults. For each mission type there is a budget read and a geared read, because the right approach genuinely changes depending on what you are working with.
Mission scoring and difficulty balance can be retuned in the ASA version, so treat the tactics here as the ASE-proven baseline and confirm current behavior in game.
Why missions are the real progression
There is no tribute altar on Genesis. The Master Controller unlocks through HLN-A's Arrival Protocol once you have enough total mission completions, and Hexagons only come from missions and from fixing Glitches. So the question is never just how do I beat this boss, it is which missions get me completions and Hexagons for the least risk. Sort by mission type first and the map gets much simpler.
Which mission types should you farm first?
There are eight mission types, and they split cleanly by whether your gear matters. The single most useful thing to understand is that Gauntlets confiscate your personal weapons and creatures at the door and hand you arena-provided kit, which makes them identical for a rich tribe and a fresh spawn. Farm Gauntlets early no matter how broke you are. Races, Gather, Fishing and the Sport missions need nothing but movement and patience, so they are also safe budget completions.
Hunts and Escorts are the two types where being geared actually accelerates you. Hunts score on how fast you kill a named Brute creature and its cohorts, so bred lines, saddles and real weapons carry them. Escorts score on how much health the escorted creature has left, so you need real DPS or a tanky screen to keep it alive. If you are broke, leave Brute hunts and Escorts for later or run them in a group. The table below is the fast reference.
- No gear needed: Gauntlet, Race, Gather, Fishing, Sport.
- Gear helps but is not required: Checkpoint.
- Gear genuinely matters: Hunt, Escort.
- Alpha difficulty pays the most Hexagons but raises the failure cost.
How do you clear the Bog missions?
The Bog kills mission runners with toxic hazards and the Bloodstalkers hanging in the canopy. King of Swing is a Bloodstalker traversal race, so it rewards movement skill over gear and is a strong budget completion once you get the grapple rhythm. Bog Beatdown is a Gauntlet, so it is an equalizer you can farm regardless of wealth. Cheaper by the Pack is a Brute raptor hunt, which is where a geared tribe with a bred line clears fast while a fresh spawn should bring help or wait. A tamed Bloodstalker of your own, covered in the creature guide, makes the whole biome easier to move through.
How do you clear the Arctic missions?
The Arctic threat is environmental: blizzards and cold chew through an underprepared survivor before any creature does, so pack fur and cooked food even on a budget run. Built Fjord Tough is a Gauntlet, so it plays the same for everyone and is worth doing early. Hyde and Seek is a Brute Ferox hunt where gear matters. Ice Fishin' is exactly what it sounds like, a low-pressure Fishing mission that is one of the friendliest Hexagon sources for a newbie or a broke player. Broke players should lean on the Gauntlet and the fishing here and save the Brute hunt for when they have a line.
How do you clear the Ocean missions?
The Ocean is the most punishing biome for underprepared runners because depth, whirlpools and oxygen management can end a run before a creature touches you, and the rebuilt open water makes traversal a real factor. Chasing the White Whale is a Brute Leedsichthys hunt, so it wants gear and a solid mount. One Tough Moeder is the Ocean's mini-boss mission and is widely considered the hardest single mission line on the map, so it is not a budget completion and not the place to learn the biome. If you are broke, get your other four biomes moving before you seriously attempt the Ocean, and treat Moeder as a geared, grouped objective.
How do you clear the Volcanic missions?
The Volcanic biome hits with ash, lava and the occasional eruption, so heat protection and pathing matter more than raw stats on the cheaper missions. Magma Medley Melee is a Gauntlet, another wealth-neutral completion to bank early. Kingslayer is a Brute X-Rex hunt, a classic geared objective where a mutated line and good saddles turn a scary fight into a fast clear. A tamed Magmasaur is lava-immune and makes moving around this biome far safer, which is another reason the creature guide is worth reading alongside this one. Broke players should farm the Gauntlet here and hold Kingslayer until they can bring damage.
How do you clear the Lunar missions?
The Lunar biome is the trickiest environment: low gravity changes every jump, and oxygen vents plus solar rays slowly kill an exposed survivor, so life support and staying in cover matter on every mission. TEKnological Terrors is a Gauntlet, so it is an equalizer even in this hostile biome. A Captain's Conquest is a Brute Astrocetus hunt, a geared objective. Mound Over Matter is a Gather mission that earned a reputation in ASE as one of the strongest solo Hexagon farms at Alpha, so it is worth learning for both broke and geared players since Gather missions need navigation, not tames. If the ASA version keeps that behavior, Mound Over Matter is a farm to memorize.
What is the fastest path to the first Master Controller unlock?
To reach the Gamma threshold with the least risk, chain the no-gear types across all five biomes first: run every Gauntlet, Race, Gather, Fishing and Sport mission at Gamma before you touch the Brute hunts. That gets a fresh spawn a large block of completions without needing a single bred line. Geared tribes can interleave Hunts and Escorts along the way because those pay the most Hexagons per run, turning the same grind into income. Either way the completions stack toward the boss gate, and the exact thresholds are in the Master Controller guide. Confirm current mission counts and scoring in game, since the ASA version can retune them.
When a mission service makes sense
The mission gate to the Master Controller is a long grind, and on a brand new map most tribes have not learned the fastest routes yet. That makes mission-package grinding toward the boss unlock a natural service request. Coverage for a map that launched today is still ramping up, so ask in Discord what is live rather than assuming day-one stock.
Get the tames that carry the hard missions
Hunts and Escorts are where a bred line changes everything, so compare boss-ready and mission-ready lines and FFA tames and kit and consumables for the geared runs. For a mission-package grind toward the boss gate, ask in Discord what Genesis coverage is live.
