ARK Master Controller Boss: All 4 Phases and Tekgrams

Master Controller planning for ARK: Survival Ascended Genesis Part 1, verified as of 2026-07-02. Mission thresholds are ASE-confirmed and the Tekgram unlocks are reported for the ASA build, so verify the live table at HLN-A.

Best answer

The Master Controller has no tribute summon. It unlocks through HLN-A's Arrival Protocol after enough total mission completions, 58 for Gamma, 116 for Beta and 168 for Alpha in ASE, so verify the ASA counts at HLN-A. The fight itself is four phases with a 15-minute limit each, where phases 1 to 3 are add-clearing waves and phase 4 is the real fight with three terminals to deactivate and shields to drop before the Controller can be damaged.

The Corrupted Master Controller is the final boss of Genesis Part 1, fought in the System Root arena, and the first thing to unlearn from Island or Scorched Earth is the tribute altar - this boss has no summon, so the unlock is a mission grind you plan with the mission walkthrough. The mission thresholds below are ASE-confirmed and the Tekgram unlocks reflect the current ASA build, so treat exact numbers as a starting point and confirm the live table at HLN-A.

#How do you unlock the Master Controller?

Instead of gathering artifacts and trophies for a summon, you unlock the Master Controller by completing missions. Once you have enough total completions, you talk to HLN-A, select Arrival Protocol and choose a difficulty. In ASE the gate is 58 missions for Gamma, 116 for Beta and 168 for Alpha, out of 176 total missions on the map. That is the single biggest planning fact for this boss, because the grind to the gate is far longer than the fight itself. The fastest way to reach it is covered in the mission walkthrough, which sorts missions by how cheap they are to clear.

#How does each phase work?

The fight is four phases with a 15-minute time limit on each. During phases 1 to 3 the Controller is immune to direct damage, so the job is to clear the waves of corrupted creatures that spawn. Each phase adds a heavier threat on top of the last. Phase 4 is where the Controller itself becomes vulnerable, but only after you handle its defenses. See the phase board below for the wave-by-wave breakdown.

  • Phase 1: Corrupted Avatars plus Corrupted Raptors and Trikes.
  • Phase 2: the same, plus Corrupted Stegos.
  • Phase 3: the same again, plus Corrupted Rexs.
  • Phase 4: the Controller enters, with terminals, shields and data keys to manage.

#Who does what in phase 4?

Phase 4 is a coordination check, not just a damage check. Three terminals have to be deactivated as the stage progresses, the Controller carries shields that must be dropped before it takes damage, and collectible data keys spawn that someone has to run to a codebreaker terminal to push the fight forward. If everyone just piles onto the boss, the shields and terminals stall the run and the 15-minute clock does the rest. Assign roles before you enter.

  • Key runner: collects data keys and delivers them to the codebreaker terminal.
  • Add control: keeps corrupted spawns off the key runner and the terminals.
  • Terminal and shield callouts: tracks which terminal is live and when shields drop.
  • Damage: bursts the Controller only in its vulnerable windows.

#What does the Master Controller unlock?

The reward scales with difficulty and it is why players push higher tiers. Beating it raises your character's maximum level, by 5 on Gamma, 10 on Beta and 15 on Alpha, along with the implant attachment that marks the ascension. It also unlocks Tekgrams that get better per tier. The tier table below lists the Tekgrams reported for the ASA build, so check the live table at HLN-A before you plan around a specific unlock. If character level cap is your goal, this ties directly into the level cap and ascension guide, and if you are chasing a specific engram, the Tek engrams by boss guide covers engram-first planning.

#Can you solo the Master Controller?

Yes, but realistically only on Gamma. On official settings the Tek rifle is capped around 159% damage, and in the final phase your tames cannot damage the boss - only your rifle can - so a solo player simply runs out of time on Alpha. Gamma is the sensible solo target (it still needs roughly 56 mission completions to unlock), and even that is a real fight.

The working solo kit is a squad of Therizinos (around 20k health, 400 melee, a decent saddle and 20 veggie cakes each, since they self-heal), a Yutyrannus on courage, and a Basilisk you bury by each terminal so your tames follow it and hold position while you run keys on foot. Bring a high-stamina character with energy brews, a Tek rifle, and spare high-durability armor to swap on a tame between hits.

Through the earlier stages you collect 80 keys each, 20 at a time to a code breaker terminal, clearing the drones as you go. In the final phase, stay in the centre circle to dodge the boss's stun while Gigas and Reapers spawn, collect your keys, then burst the boss with the Tek rifle in first person so it does not overheat. A duo makes the whole fight far easier, and Alpha effectively needs a second player for the damage.

#Is the Master Controller a good boss to buy help for?

On a brand new map, yes, for two reasons. The unlock is a long mission grind that a mission-package service can shortcut, and the phase 4 codebreaker and terminal timing is unfamiliar to almost everyone in the first weeks, so failed 15-minute phases waste real time. There is no track record for Genesis carries yet because the map launched today, so pricing and availability are still settling. Ask in Discord what is live rather than expecting day-one stock.

#Prep the run before you hit the gate

For the fight itself, compare boss-ready lines and FFA tames and consumables and kit. For the mission grind that unlocks the boss, read the mission walkthrough first, then ask in Discord what Genesis boss and mission coverage is live.

FAQ

Common questions

How many missions do you need for the Master Controller?

In ASE, 58 missions unlock Gamma, 116 unlock Beta and 168 unlock Alpha, out of 176 total. Any mission at any difficulty counts toward the total. Verify the exact ASA counts at HLN-A before planning your grind.

How many phases does the Master Controller fight have?

Four, each with a 15-minute time limit. Phases 1 to 3 are add-clearing waves where the Controller is immune, and phase 4 adds terminals, shields and data keys before the Controller can be killed.

What does the Master Controller unlock?

It raises your maximum level by 5, 10 or 15 depending on difficulty, plus an implant attachment, and unlocks Tekgrams by tier. In the ASA build, Gamma reports Tek Claws, Tek Dedicated Storage, Tek Replicator and the Tek Hover Skiff; Beta adds Tek Leggings, the Tek Shoulder Cannon and the Astrocetus Tek Saddle; and Alpha adds the Tek Chest engram and the Tek Cruise Missile. Verify the live rewards at HLN-A before planning around one.

Is the Master Controller a good first Genesis boss to buy help for?

On a new map, often yes, because the mission-completion unlock is a long grind and the phase 4 terminal timing is unfamiliar early on. Coverage is still ramping up since the map just launched, so ask in Discord for live availability.
