Crafting Skill gets ignored by most casual players and obsessed over by every serious PvP tribe - and the tribes are the ones who are right. The same blueprint in the hands of a dedicated crafter comes out noticeably better: more armor, more damage, more durability. Here's what the stat actually does and why every tribe ends up building a crafter.
When you craft an item from a blueprint, the game rolls a random bonus to the item's stats. Crafting Skill increases the potential range of this bonus - the higher your Crafting Skill, the higher the bonus can roll. This applies to:
Armor rating on Flak, Riot, and saddles
Damage on weapons
Durability on everything
The same Apprentice Flak Chestpiece BP crafted by a character with no points invested in Crafting Skill versus a dedicated crafter can produce different results. Higher Crafting Skill raises the possible bonus, but an individual roll can still be zero.
In PVP, most tribes have at least one character that's built entirely around Crafting Skill. This character doesn't fight - it exists solely to craft the best possible gear from blueprints. When your tribe gets a good Flak BP, you want the highest possible armor roll every time you craft it.
A dedicated crafter needs:
Max Crafting Skill stat - Every level-up point into Crafting Skill
High character level - More levels = more points to invest
Ascension bonuses - Extra levels from Tek Cave Ascension mean more Crafting Skill points
Crafting Skill raises the possible bonus range, but each craft is a random roll and can receive a zero bonus. It does not guarantee a 20-30% improvement or a maximum roll. The bonus applies to the blueprint's improvement above the primitive base, with applicable item and server caps still limiting the result.
This is also why lower-quality BPs with high stats are so valuable. A crafter can push those stats even higher while keeping the crafting cost low.
Leveling a character to max and pumping all points into Crafting Skill takes significant time - you need to grind XP, complete Ascensions for the extra levels, and keep the character safe (losing it means starting over). A character leveling service delivers a max-level crafter ready to go.
