ARK ASA PvP Tips and Tricks: Prep, Combat and Raiding Fundamentals

Best answer

Win more ASA PvP by hiding loot in spread-out spots (upload, sky Quetzals, buried vaults), always carrying a shield, whip, bolas, grapples and gas grenades, learning to grapple-cut and bola-block, and knowing key ranges - turrets fire at about 69m and a Tek rifle reaches 50m. Then get into fights, because you only improve by playing.

ARK Survival Ascended PvP is won as much on preparation and small habits as on aim. This is a fundamentals guide - the loot safety, combat tricks, flyer plays and raiding habits that consistently swing fights - rather than a base-building or dino-counter deep dive, which have their own guides. Get these basics down and you stop losing fights you should win.

#Prep and Loot Safety

  • Hide loot in spread-out spots. Your upload holds 50 items and 20 tames nothing can touch (72-hour timer); beyond that use sky Quetzals, hidden 2x1s, buried Purlovia or vaults, and underwater containers near obelisks. Never keep it all in one place, and keep a second war room off-server.
  • Always carry the kit. A shield, crossbow with grapples, parachutes, whip, bolas, gas grenades and med brews. Know your hotbar cold - 1-5 for weapons/grapples/brews/bolas, 6-9 for situational.
  • Make a female, minimum-size character for a smaller hitbox, and enlarge arms and legs so hits land on less damage-sensitive areas.
  • Get swamp fever - it grants +20% movement speed, which you can no longer level in ASA, making you far harder to hit and grab.
  • Mind-wipe to re-spec for the task: crafting skill when making gear from blueprints, HP/stamina/fortitude when roaming.

#1v1 Combat

  • Beat grabs by grapple-hooking the ground (denies PT and Argent grabs); if grabbed, grapple onto the dino to break out - and carry parachutes for the fall.
  • Grapple-cut: if an enemy grapples you toward turrets or a flamethrower, swing a sword or hatchet at the line to cut it. A high-damage sword also scares grabbers into releasing.
  • Against bolas: shield up, crouch and point it at them; if the shield breaks, bola them back; if all else fails, spam prone and jump so they cannot land shots.
  • Move unpredictably - never run in a straight line or over-jump. With a shield, crouch-jump while keeping it pointed at them.
  • Gas grenades are underused early - most players have no gas mask, so you can knock them off a dino outright.

#Flyers and Tames

  • Shoot from your Wyvern: dismount and stand on its body (it drains ~1 stamina per tick) to snipe fleeing enemies who never expect it - and you can passive-tame aggressive dinos like Rexes this way.
  • Flamethrower on a Rhyniognatha: grab a player and burn them; the flamethrower ignores armor and the Rhynio is too tanky for a quick shotgun kill.
  • Pyromane: on your shoulder it is an aimbot flamethrower that ignites nearby enemies, and its line form is a 60-armor early tank that makes you fire-immune.
  • Make enemy flyers low-HP even if you cannot kill them - low HP means slow stamina regen, so you can catch and finish them.
  • Heavy-plate Stego heavily slows anything it hits - great for holding a cave entrance or setting up a teammate's kill.

#Base Defense Must-Dos

  • Use every turret type, and split Teslas roughly 50/50 bright (stun) and volatile (extra damage), with a charged one as a players-only internal.
  • Ground turrets: put 50% on survivors-only and 50% on survivors-and-mounted, so a Paracer running up still gets shot after Carbonemys soak the rest.
  • Vault-drop every generator, run several (top, bottom and sky), and keep four batteries in each heavy so it stays powered if a gen is meshed.
  • Spread named beds so you can respawn nearby and save a base mid-wipe.

#Raiding and Scouting Tricks

  • Scout with the structure counter: hold a structure and walk - the count in the top-left rising means a base is near, which finds hidden ratholes. Photo mode lets you peek into bases (and some meshes) safely.
  • Know your ranges: turrets fire at ~69m, a Tek rifle reaches 50m - mark them so you know how close you can push.
  • C4 a Carbonemys and whistle it into a base - 6x damage in caves once the turrets are soaked.
  • Homing missiles shred flyers and Tek suits; a flare gun can redirect an incoming homing missile.
  • Offline timing: hit NA servers in NA morning and EU servers in EU morning to catch offline bases.
  • Get into fights. You only improve by playing - accept that you will lose bases and dinos, learn from each one, and don't spend all day farming loot other people will take anyway.

FAQ

Common questions

How do you hide loot in ARK PvP?

Spread it out. The upload holds 50 items and 20 tames that nobody can touch (72-hour timer), and beyond that use sky Quetzals, hidden 2x1s, buried Purlovia or vaults, and underwater containers. Never keep everything in one place.

What should you always carry in ARK PvP?

A shield, a crossbow with grapples, parachutes, a whip, bolas, gas grenades and med brews - and know your hotbar so you can react without looking. Keys 1-5 for weapons, grapples, brews and bolas; 6-9 for situational items.

What are the turret and Tek rifle ranges in ASA?

Turrets start firing at roughly 69-70m (as close as ~60m on some angles), and a Tek rifle reaches exactly 50m. Marking those ranges with rally points tells you how close you can get before you are shot.
