In ARK: Survival Ascended Small Tribes PVP, your dino lines are everything. The gap between freshly tamed dinos and a properly mutated, imprinted line is massive — in HP, damage, and stamina. Here's a breakdown of the dinos that matter most and what to look for in a line.
Why Lines Matter More in Small Tribes
Small Tribes caps tribes at 6 players. You can't zerg. Every dino needs to count. Established tribes run stacks of mutations on their best dinos, meaning a tribe without proper lines is at a severe disadvantage in open-world PVP, offline defense, and boss fights.
Building lines from scratch means taming high-level wild dinos, selectively breeding for stat stacks, and running mutations for hundreds of generations. Realistically, this takes months. Buying proven lines skips directly to the competitive tier.
Top PVP Dinos in ASA by Category
Raiding
- Giganotosaurus — Still the king of raids and base destruction. With the highest base damage of any non-boss dino, a mutated Giga can tear through metal structures and dinos alike. Melee mutations are the priority.
- Rhino (Woolly Rhinoceros) — The charge attack deals massive burst damage, making Rhinos extremely effective for breaking into bases and destroying turret walls. Melee and HP mutations are key.
PVP Combat & Mobility
- Managarmr — The top mobility dino in ASA. The Managarmr can leap huge distances and has an ice breath that slows targets. On Small Tribes, where speed and positioning matter, a good Mana is invaluable for chasing, escaping, and scouting. Stamina mutations are critical for sustained flight.
- Wyvern — Lightning, Fire, Poison, and Ice variants each have their niche. Lightning Wyverns are the go-to for PVP due to their high burst damage breath attack. Strong lines with melee and stamina mutations dominate air combat.
Soaking & Base Defense
- Stegosaurus — The best soaker in ASA. With their damage reduction and high base HP, mutated Stegos can absorb thousands of turret shots while your tribe pushes into a base. HP mutations are everything.
- Carbonemys — The ultimate tank. The Carbonemys absorbs more damage than almost anything in the game and is the go-to for soaking turrets set to target players and dinos. HP mutations are the priority.
- Paracer — Platform saddle lets you build a protective box for the rider while the Paracer soaks. Hard to counter due to its size and the rider protection. HP mutations and a high-armor platform saddle are key.
Boss Fights
- Therizinosaur — Essential for most boss fights. High HP and melee lines are used for boss carries on every server type. Their Veggie Cake healing makes them durable against percentage-based damage.
- Pyromane — The Dragon boss meta. Fire resistance counters the Dragon's main damage mechanic, making Pyromanes the only real choice for Dragon fights.
- Rex — Still the workhorse for bosses like Broodmother and Megapithecus. High HP and melee mutation stacks make the difference between a clean Alpha run and a wipe.
Support
- Snow Owl — The best healing support in ASA. The Snow Owl's freeze ability lets it heal nearby dinos rapidly while rendering them temporarily immobile — a powerful mechanic during base defense or between raid waves. HP mutations are the focus.
What Stats to Look For
For PVP, the priority stats depend on the dino's role:
- Raiders (Giga, Rhino) — Melee and HP mutations
- Mobility (Managarmr, Wyvern) — Stamina and melee
- Soakers (Stego, Carbonemys, Paracer) — HP above everything
- Boss dinos (Therizino, Rex, Pyromane) — HP and melee
- Support (Snow Owl) — HP
The higher the stat on hatch, the more room for mutations. Lines that have been selectively bred for generations will have significantly higher base stats than fresh tames.
