Choose ASA if you want its official network, Unreal Engine 5 features or supported cross-platform play and mods. Check that your friends, server, platform and chosen mods actually work together. Wildcard's 2023 official-network sunset covered ASE on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. That does not mean ASE single-player or player-run servers stopped working, and it is not a claim about every platform. ASA supports cross-platform multiplayer and mod distribution; each server's settings, platform restrictions and approved mods still matter.
ASA targets Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. ASE's Steam edition supports Steam Workshop mods; that setup is separate from ASA's in-game mod browser. Check the exact game and server before assuming two friends can play together.
The publisher lists higher Windows minimum requirements for ASA than ASE, including 16 GB RAM and an SSD for ASA. ASA uses Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite. Listed requirements are not a frame-rate benchmark: compare the current Steam requirements with your hardware and the server or mods you intend to use before buying either game.
Treat the two editions as separate games. Do not assume an ASE save, mod, character, creature or building file can be used in ASA. Verify the destination edition and the actual import or transfer workflow first.
