Extinction is one of the most unique and rewarding maps in ARK: Survival Ascended. It's set on a ruined Earth with a massive city in the center, wastelands filled with corrupted dinos, and endgame content that includes some of the best loot sources and the hardest boss in the game. Here's everything you need to know.
The Map Layout
Extinction is divided into distinct zones:
- Sanctuary (City) — The central city area. Safe from corruption, good for building, and home to Enforcers and Scouts. Element Dust can be farmed here by grinding Tek creatures.
- Wasteland — The corrupted zones outside the city. Dangerous but filled with high-value content: OSDs, Element Veins, and corrupted dinos. Structures in the wasteland take damage from corruption events.
- Snow Dome / Desert Dome / Sunken Forest — Biome domes that contain unique resources and creatures.
Orbital Supply Drops (OSDs)
OSDs are one of the best loot sources in all of ASA. They spawn across the wasteland at different tiers:
- White/Green — Easiest, decent starter loot
- Blue — Moderate difficulty, better BPs
- Purple — Hard, excellent BPs and gear
- Red — Extremely hard, some of the best loot in the game
You defend the OSD from waves of corrupted dinos. The higher the tier, the more waves and the stronger the enemies. Purple and Red OSDs can drop high-quality blueprints for armor, saddles, and weapons — making them a top farming target for PVP tribes.
Element Veins
Element Veins are mineral deposits that spawn in the wasteland. Like OSDs, you defend them from waves of corrupted dinos. Once complete, you harvest the vein for raw Element. The amount depends on the vein tier and how much health it retained. This is one of the best Element farming methods outside of boss fights.
Titans
Extinction has three tameable Titans — Ice, Forest, and Desert. These are temporary tames (they lose HP over time and eventually die), but they're incredibly powerful. Each Titan is tamed through a unique encounter:
- Ice Titan — Found in the Snow Dome, involves destroying nodes on its body
- Forest Titan — Found in the Sunken Forest, similar node-destruction mechanic
- Desert Titan — Found in the Desert Dome, fought in the air with flyers
Titans are used both in PVP (they can destroy enemy bases) and as a requirement for the King Titan fight.
King Titan
The King Titan is the ultimate boss in ARK. To summon it, you need all three lesser Titans alive at the terminal. The fight itself is on a massive scale — the King Titan is the largest creature in the game, and your three Titans fight alongside your tribe to bring it down. Alpha King Titan is considered the hardest boss fight in ASA.
