The Center is one of ARK's oldest free maps and it has always been defined by two things: dense, high-level wild spawns and an unusual amount of rare resources packed into a compact world. This guide skips the filler and gets to what actually helps on ASA - where the resources are, which caves are worth your time, and how the dual boss fight really plays out.
The Center at a Glance
Like most maps, The Center runs on three obelisks that roughly mark difficulty. The blue obelisk sits over the easier, greener zone with heavy Pteranodon spawns - your fastest ticket into the air. The green obelisk covers the colder snow and swamp regions with far more dangerous wildlife, and the red obelisk sits on Lava Island, a fully carnivorous heat trap that is the most dangerous ground on the map.
Note: The two small "beginner islands" under the blue obelisk are the best places to start. They are flat, easy to build on, largely safe, and still give you basic resources plus rarer ones like Metal and Crystal nodes close by.
Where to Farm Every Key Resource
The Center rewards knowing exact spots. These are the reliable ones, with coordinates where they matter. Confirm anything progression-critical in game, since ASA can shift spawns.
| Resource | Location | Notes |
Oil | Iceberg at 36.4 / 11.5 | Oil rocks, zero hostile spawns; watch the cold and your Pteranodon stamina |
Oil (river) | 38.7 / 55.6 | About six oil rocks on the riverbed; piranhas are the main threat |
Silica Pearls | 46.8 / 63.7 | Shallow river spawns, roughly 10 pearls, low risk |
Organic Polymer | Oil iceberg (penguins) | Use a Pelagornis and target babies and juveniles first; a wooden club also works |
Black Pearls | Deep ocean by the world barrier (~90 longitude) | Follow the barrier north or south; Alpha Mosasaur drops ~100, Alpha Tuso ~75 |
Metal / Oil / Obsidian | Deep eastern ocean | Huge clusters; run Dunkleosteus with weight and bodyguards |
Honey and Sap | Southern Redwoods | Beehives on the giant redwoods; tree sap taps give ~1 sap per 10 minutes, capped at 30 |
Rare Flowers / Rare Mushrooms | Swamp, and the West lava cave | A Ferox harvests both efficiently - tickle attack for flowers, primary attack for mushrooms |
Tip: Beaver dams are everywhere on The Center except the snow biome and Lava Island - it has far more spawns than The Island. Loot them for Wood, Cementing Paste and small amounts of Silica Pearls and rare drops, and empty the dam fully so more respawn.
The Caves and Artifacts Worth Running
A few of The Center's caves are unusually generous, and two break the normal rules.
Artifact of the Devious - inside the floating island, and currently the only cave where flyers work. Fly an Ankylosaurus and Argentavis straight up through the lower entrances for huge Crystal and Metal, then grab the artifact.
Artifact of the Immune - five entrances, but the river entrance at 46/58.6 gets you in and out in about a minute. The artifact sits at 50/60.2, often beside a blue loot crate.
Jump puzzle cave - a Ferox can climb the walls with no damage now, so you can skip the puzzle entirely and loot the crates at your own pace, including the red crate by the artifact that spawns every time.
Taming Notes Specific to The Center
Two tames are worth flagging. The Shastasaurus uses a minigame: bait it to the surface with Ichthyosaurus and cut the leeches off with a sickle. More dolphins buy more time - one gives 30 seconds, two gives 60, three gives 90. Its saddle needs level 100 and a Tek Replicator, but you can find pre-made saddles in yellow cave crates in the ice caves and West lava cave. Once tamed, its Periscope works like Tek binoculars, letting you read wild creature stats without beating the Overseer.
You can also claim baby Yetis from the artifact snow caves - kill the parents, claim the baby, then cryopod it and toss it back out at base to access its inventory. For Megalania toxin needed for the boss, breed a pair: every baby carries two toxin, on top of the two you get from knocking out wild ones.
The Center Boss Fight
The Center runs the Broodmother and Megapithecus together in one arena, which shapes your team. Bring high-damage carnivores that cover both threats.
- Megatherium - the standout, since its insect-killer buff makes it shred the Broodmother's summoned spiders while taking reduced damage.
Rex - the reliable all-rounder for the raw damage race.
- Spinosaurus - the flooded arena keeps it hydrated for a constant damage buff, so this is one of the rare boss rooms that actually suits it.
Yutyrannus and Daeodon - courage buff and healing support if you are running a full team.
Tip: If you would rather not breed an army, you can cheese it. Ride a Procoptodon into the arena, charge-jump onto the high ledge on the right, and pound both bosses from above with a high-quality pump-action shotgun where they cannot reach you. A ~260% pump and around 600 rounds clears both in roughly 17 minutes.
If you would rather skip straight to a boss-ready team or a stocked base, Layeh's Market carries bred dino lines and FFA tames and gear and resources for the prep. Join the Discord to check current stock.
FAQ
Common questions
Where do you get oil on The Center?
The safest early oil is the iceberg at 36.4 latitude, 11.5 longitude, which has oil rocks and no hostile spawns. There is also a river cluster of about six oil rocks at 38.7/55.6, and heavy deep-ocean oil near the eastern world barrier for Dunkleosteus runs.
What bosses does The Center have?
The Center has one arena that fights the Broodmother and Megapithecus at the same time. You can bring a bred dino team or solo it from a ledge with a Procoptodon and a high-damage pump-action shotgun.
Is The Center good for beginners in ASA?
It is a step harder than The Island, but the two beginner islands under the blue obelisk are flat, safe and rich in basic plus rare resources like metal and crystal, which makes for a strong start once you tame a Pteranodon.
