Meshing - shooting your base from inside the map geometry - is one of the hardest things to defend in ARK Survival Ascended PvP, and against cheaters it is worse. You cannot make a base fully mesh-proof, but you can make it so slow and annoying to mesh that most raiders give up. This guide covers the layers that actually help.

#Start With the Spot

Before you build, check the mesh under the spot. Open land bases (red light, snow ramps) are easy to mesh but hard to actually wipe from below, since a Tek rifle usually cannot reach your foundations from range. Caves are better defended - they have multiple mesh layers - but they still get meshed, and most have weak points. Scout where a mesher is most likely to come from, and put your generators and defenses accordingly.

Note: Cover foundations with both metal and Tek, not Tek alone. Tek takes more rockets, but if a mesher gets close they can Tek-rifle Tek foundations easily, so mixing forces more effort. Fill war rooms, crafting areas and towers with foundations, and connect the top, bottom and sides of a build to one snap network so matching one layer does not collapse it.

#Turrets, Generators and Batteries

The single biggest anti-mesh rule is internal turrets everywhere - not just around the war room. Any gap with no turret is a spot a mesher walks straight out of. Back that up with:

Spread, vault-dropped generators - never one gen in a box (6x damage in caves). Vault-drop several and float some so meshing them all takes real time.
Batteries in your heavies - four per heavy, so turrets keep firing after the gens are meshed or raged.
Small aggressive tames - Desmodus, vultures or Dimorphodons leveled in HP will not stop a mesher but they delay them and, by dying, tell you exactly where the mesh is.

#The Best Tames to Hit Into the Mesh

Small creatures bite into the mesh better than big ones. The picks that actually work:

Lightning Wyvern - the best, huge damage if they go inside the mesh; Poison is second and can kill Stego rushes.
Managarmr - a jump-dash always connects with the mesh over a large radius.
Desmodus - bites through the mesh, gets tanky with good saddles and self-heals off a Stego thrown in.
Stego - decent range and knockback on aggressive; annoying and effective.
Griffin - the strongest option, but only while you are online, since it will not dive on aggressive. Pump HP on all of these except the Griffin.

#Detection and Online Defense

A high-level, well-fed Parasaur in turret mode is your detector - it pings the mesher with a red dot so you can dive exactly where they are instead of guessing at thrown rocks. When you are online, block a targeted generator with walls and replace them as they break (they run out of Tek rifles before you run out of walls), wedge a big tanky dino like a Dreadnoughtus into the wall to block rockets, and drop a fresh heavy to shoot rockets as they exit.

Warning: Cheaters use "force shooting" - glitching into the mesh to rifle your generators directly. The counter is outside turrets and a lot of ling; it is cheap, and even if they wipe the ling it buys the time you need to log on. There will always be new metas and cheats, so the real skill is layering enough defense that meshing you is never worth it.

How do you stop meshers in ARK?

You cannot fully stop them, but you can layer defenses: internal turrets everywhere so they cannot walk out of the mesh safely, spread-out and vault-dropped generators, small aggressive tames to delay and detect, a Parasaur in turret mode to pinpoint them, and outside turrets plus lots of ling against force-shooting.

What tames hit best into the mesh in ARK?

Lightning Wyverns do the most mesh damage, with Poison second. A Managarmr's jump-dash always hits the mesh with a large radius, Desmodus and Stegos bite into it and knock back, and a Griffin dive is best while you are online. Prioritize HP on all of them except the Griffin.
