First boss advice gets messy because players argue about arena difficulty while ignoring prep. Small Tribes prep is the fight before the fight: caves, trophies, lines, saddles, transfer timers and the right survivor.
Pick the boss from your next objective. If you need base Tek, route one way. If you need character progression, route another. If caves are blocked, the easy boss may not be easy this week.
Best first boss by tribe size
Solo players should avoid long visible prep. Duo groups can handle more artifact work if they scout properly. Trio/full groups can push a stronger route, but they also have more coordination failure points.
- Solo: lowest-risk useful unlock.
- Duo: split artifact and trophy tasks.
- Trio/full: target tribe infrastructure first.
Best first boss by Tek goal
If the goal is Replicator and early Tek crafting, choose the route that gets that infrastructure started. If the goal is Turrets, do not ignore Element supply. If the goal is Transmitter or ascension value, do not waste time on a boss that does not move that character forward.
Artifact pain vs reward
A boss with a simple arena can be a bad first boss if the artifacts are locked by PvP. Count the time to get tributes, not just the time to kill the boss.
Recommended progression order
Use a Tek target first, then check tributes, then choose a boss or carry. A first boss should unlock immediate progress, open a chain or remove a bottleneck.
Choose from the unlock, not the rumor
Use the Tek engram matrix first, then check boss availability only after the target unlock and survivor are clear.
